Distinguish harmony, doubling, and a choir
A harmony part uses a complementary melody. A double supports an existing part with another performance of essentially the same line. A choir treatment adds the impression of a larger ensemble. They can be combined, but they solve different problems.
If the chorus needs a second melodic idea, doubling the lead will not write that idea. If the melody already works and only needs more body, a new harmony can make the arrangement unnecessarily busy. Decide what is missing while listening to the lead in context.
ACE’s Doubles documentation describes creating vocal doubles from a MIDI clip or track and adjusting how similar they remain. That is a performance variation tool. Compose the intended harmony notes before using doubles to thicken them.
Build a four-bar exercise you can understand
Use four bars in 4/4 at 80 beats per minute. The proposed chord sequence is C major, A minor, F major, then G major. Each bar lasts three seconds, so the four-bar note sequence lasts twelve seconds before any added tail.
The original lyric is “Stay / here / till / dawn,” with one word held in each bar. This deliberately spare lyric makes it easier to hear the relationship between the parts. It is not intended as a complete song or a showcase of expressive singing.

Some music applications label octaves differently. The MIDI note numbers remove that ambiguity. Both lines use chord tones in this exercise. The supporting line stays on C for three bars, then moves down to B; it does not need to leap every time the chord changes.
Enter the notes and lyrics in ACE Studio
The ACE beginner workflow describes creating a vocal clip from a singer, opening the piano roll, drawing or importing notes, entering lyrics, and rendering or exporting the vocal. Use the current controls in your version to create a separate lead and harmony track.
Import the included MIDI exercise or enter the table manually. The MIDI supplies two named note tracks and tempo information. It does not supply a licensed singer, rendered audio, or an accompaniment. Add the four words to each vocal part and confirm that each word belongs to the intended note.
Begin with clear, comfortable voices rather than the most dramatic timbres available. If a note sounds strained or unnaturally weak, consider the singer’s useful range and the musical register. Do not assume an octave label alone tells you whether a voice will perform well there.
Hear the notes against the chords
Play simple block chords on a piano or other neutral instrument. Listen to the lead first, then add the harmony quietly. The supporting line should make musical sense without overpowering the words.
Bar three is a useful checkpoint. The lead rises from E to F while the harmony stays on C. That creates a different interval without moving both parts in parallel. If you had shifted the lead down by the same fixed number of semitones everywhere, you could have produced a note that did not fit the chord.
This exercise uses consonant chord tones as a starting point. Real arrangements can include passing notes, suspensions, and deliberate tension. Add those choices because you hear a musical reason, not because a “harmonize” operation produced them automatically.
Shape the supporting performance
Once the pitches work, listen to the beginning and ending of every word. The two singers should articulate “Stay” together closely enough to sound intentional. If one consonant arrives much later, it can sound like an echo instead of a harmony.
Do not make every breath, consonant, and vowel identical by default. Some variation can make the parts feel like separate performances. The question is whether the variation supports the arrangement or distracts from it.
For this slow exercise, start with restrained expression and a clear sustained vowel. Add more movement only after the chord relationship is easy to hear. An expressive slide can obscure the pitch you are trying to evaluate, especially when both parts move at once.
Use doubles after the harmony works
If the two-part arrangement feels correct but too thin, explore a double of one part. ACE documents controls for similarity and selected humanization behavior. Compare the result in the mix instead of assuming maximum difference or maximum similarity is best.
A simple duplicate of an identical rendered file is not a new sung performance. At the same timing and level, it mainly changes the combined level; artificial offsets can create comb filtering or other phase effects. Decide whether you want genuine performance variation, a deliberate effect, or just a level adjustment.
Listen in mono after making a wide arrangement. A harmony that seems rich only when hard-panned may become cluttered or lose definition when combined. Keep the lead understandable and let the supporting part earn its space.
Connect a generated musical idea to exact notes

If you want to use a generated accompaniment, verify its key, chord changes, tempo, and arrangement before fitting the vocal. Alternatively, use a simple accompaniment that you have composed or entered yourself. Exact vocal writing needs an accurate musical map.
Do not force the twelve-second exercise over a backing track whose changes happen at different times. Adjust the note arrangement to the actual music, or choose a backing that matches. Timing the phrases correctly matters as much as choosing the right pitch names.
Export parts that line up in the editor
Export the lead and harmony from the same timeline start, preserving any intentional leading silence and the release at the end. Import both into your audio editor at the same position. Check the first consonant and the final release before mixing.
Name the files with their role and revision: lead, low harmony, and any doubles. Save the MIDI, lyric assignment, tempo, and voice choices beside the audio. A revision to one word should not require reconstructing the entire arrangement from memory.
Finish by listening to the complete piece at a modest level. If the lyric disappears when the harmony enters, lower or simplify the supporting part before reaching for more processing. A useful harmony makes the lead feel intentional and complete.
